Since its first opening in Rome, BAU International Academy of Rome has offered semester programs of Architecture, Urban Planning and Interior Design to the undergraduate students coming from BAU Istanbul and the its global network of academic partners. Courses of Urban Design and Planning, Conservation and Restoration and Interior Design have offered the opportunity to reflect on the multilayered structure of an historical city such as Rome, the concept of tangible and intangible heritage, the principles and methods of the restoration and conservation of the architectural heritage, and to develop a holistic and an integrated point of view towards the different aspects of cultural heritage and city identity in their broadest definitions. 

Studio Design courses focused on the the identity of the Made in Italy Brand and its connections with the urban space are our Top Flagship Programs. With these courses, students learn in 3 months  how to design modern places of symbolic significance, drawing inspiration from the legacy of the Eternal City and using materials, patterns, colors, shades and products of design rigorously Made in Italy. Internship possibilities at the end of the 3-month specializations offer the opportunity to deploy in an Italian company/architect studio the set of skills and competences gained throughout the specialization.

This is a studio design experience offered by the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Bahcesehir University in its center of Rome to develop your design and architecture skills, by using the Eternal City as an urban laboratory for research, exploration and application. 


Which skills will you improve?  
At the end of this program students will be able to: 

  • Understand the critical success factors of best placemaking, by studying urban space planning and interior design vs community growth and development 
  • Reflect on the concept of space as a place where people exchange value 
  • Face the challenge to design in historic contexts and cities that are cultural artifacts made of multiple layers 
  • Display enhanced design methods and skills, taking into account salient issues such as architectural ethics, the role of technology in architecture and the importance of sustainable design 
  • Explore the rich variety of the Italian culture and of the city of Rome 
  • Apply the most relevant interior design and urban planning theories and approaches to real spaces and buildings of Rome with a final studio design project 


Tailor your learning experience
This course can be completed in a 3-month period combined with conservation and preservation course, city and culture tours, Italian language course and other certificates.
